Information | SCREENING OF K A A

SCREENING OF  K A A
Film Journalists' Forum (FJF) will screen classic Odia masterpiece KAA (Release year: 1966; President award winning film) as the ninth presentation in its series Smruti Chayya.
Venue: Jaydev Bhavan, Bhubaneswar
Date: 10th December 2015, Thursday
Time: 6.00 pm.
On this occasion, in a brief ceremony, eminent personalities associated with this movie will be honoured.

See the importance accorded to the author. It is "Kanhucharananka Kaa". Compare this to present day films. Zero importance accorded to the author/writer. Result: you get films without any sensible storyline. As a result, middle class viewers who wanted to "see a book" (bahi dekhiba) gradually shunned Odia cinema. As this happened, the producers in stead of bringing in good story and plot to hold on to this type of audience tried to attract front benchers by imitating the titilating and mindless Hindi and Telugu cinema. This further alienated the middle class aesthetically oriented viewers. That is one of the main reasons of the decline of 'good' cinema in Odisha.

Intolerance against mainstream media: Cartoon and Meme

Intolerance is growing against mainstream media. Alarmingly.
Here are some cartoons and meme* posted in social media which are very critical of media. We can debate over the causes. But what scares me are the consequences. Without a credible, acceptable and respectable mainstream media the world will descend to media anarchy, thanks to the ease of creating and disseminating content over Internet. This might inflict unthinkable damage to the present world and social order.
(Meme is an activity, concept, catchphrase or piece of media which spreads, often as mimicry, from person to person via the Internet)
