Vacancy for Director – Communications & Fundraising with Smile Train India, New Delhi
BACKGROUND:

Smile Train India is a not-for-profit company registered under Section 25 of the Indian Companies Act of 1956 with exemption u/s 80G of the IT Act. It is part of Smile Train – the world’s largest charity devoted exclusively to the cause of helping poor children born with cleft lips and cleft palates in developing countries.

Smile Train has sponsored more than 425,000 surgeries across India since the year 2000. The organization has approx 180 treatment partners and helps more than 50,000 children in India annually. At approx. Rs. 17,000/- per surgery, program size is presently more than Rs. 85 crores per annum.

JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

Smile Train India wishes to appoint a senior communications professional as Director - Communications & Fundraising (DCF), responsible for substantially improving the visibility of Smile Train among Corporations, Foundations, Key Opinion Leaders and High Net-Worth Individuals, both in India and abroad and to raise funds for running the India programs.

Based at New Delhi, Smile Train India does not operate out of formal offices and all existing staff work from home in a highly networked environment. The post holder shall preferably be based in Delhi NCR, although working from Mumbai may also be an option.

Key Job Responsibilities:

A. Create and Implement Robust Reputation Strategy for Smile Train India

(1) Ensure wide acceptance of Smile Train as the most credible and most respected healthcare delivery/children/social development agency and deliver this across a multi-stakeholder model;
(2) Draw up an appropriate Action Plan and implement the same for significantly expanding Smile Train’s visibility among potential donors, aligned with the organization’s overall goals of financial self-sufficiency;
(3) Spearhead the development and execution of a national level PR campaign focused on large corporations – both in the private and public sectors, Foundations and High Net-worth Individuals in India and abroad
(4) Articulate and deliver through a focused fundraising and communications plan which should incorporate clear goals, aimed at creating enduring salience for the `brand’. Work on clear, measurable and aggressive goals and timelines for raising funds and continually monitor and report progress;
(5) Develop strategic linkages with suitable external partners, e.g. local Corporates, ‘partner’ hospitals, watchdog agencies, brand ambassadors, high public figures, other NGO’s etc. that can function as ‘force multipliers’ to bolster PR plans;
(6) As Part of Senior Management Team, work closely with the local Programs Team in India and the global Marketing Team in New York, actively contributing in the charting of overall organizational direction and formulation of strategies and policies.
(7) Work with Senior Management on Key Regulatory and Government Issues
(8) Develop and Sustain Strong Donor Relations;
(9) Handle supervisory responsibilities and work closely and manage the PR Agency and third party vendors on PR, Marketing Communications and related areas.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

Qualification:
(1) Applicants should have post graduate qualification, preferably an MBA with a major in Communications, from a reputed institute.

Experience:
(1) 10 years of functional experience at a senior level in marketing with a reputed company, in the services sector, preferably a large organization engaged in delivering societal benefits or similar; Well-rounded experience in a top flight international advertising agency;
(2) Demonstrated track record of independently setting up and managing fundraising programs;
(3) Sound academic background with a solid, proven track record of communications in a reputed corporation or international ad agency;
(4) Excellent track record of credible and demonstrable achievements in a communications or fundraising position;
(5) Good understanding of and a thorough familiarity with the Indian mass media, its reach, costs, effectiveness, limitations etc.;
(6) Thorough understanding of the CSR scene in India, a solid marketing and communications background with a proven track record.

COMPENSATION OFFERED:

Smile Train is a very performance driven, highly challenging and demanding organization; it expects a lot and pays generously – among the best in the market. Compensation is unlikely to be a constraint for an exceptional candidate.
