National Awards For Excellence in Journalism 2015
1. Raja Ram Mohan Roy National Award forExcellence in Journalism – The award to be conferred on the basis of
nomination from entrants selection by jury on the basis of (a) own knowledge,
(b) nominations received from associations of journalists, editors and
newspapers and, (c)nominations received from members of civil society and
will recognized seminal journalistic efforts in upholding the ideals of a free
Press and given to an Editor, columnist, photojournalist or cartoonist who has
done substantial work in the preceding year.

Eligibility
1. Open to all journalists/freelancers of Indian nationality. The nomination of journalistemployed with a newspaper to be made by the editor of the newspaper/news agency,
who shall declare that the journalist being nominated has been in regular employment of
the newspaper/news agency for the preceding calendar year. He/She should have
contributed at least 10-15 reports/photographs with bye line in the given year and must
highlight atleast two distinguished contributions/articles on the basis of which they seek
the Award in the given category. The nomination to be counter signed by the nominated
journalist. Freelancers making self-nomination may also file a self attested declaration
with the above documents.
2. Joint Declaration by the editor and nominated journalist or by freelancer that the
material taken into consideration for award is the sole creation of the journalist/photojournalist
and was first published in the preceding calendar year and all rights of the
material vest in the newspaper/journalist/photo-journalist.
3. Language Paper articles should be translated in English /Hindi.
4. All photo entries must include a caption either in English or Hindi translation thereof.
5. Each entry must also document journalist’s/photo-journalist’s professional status.
6. Awards are not open to sitting members of the Council.
7. The Award for 'Best Newspapers Art' covering cartoons, caricatures and illustration,
relates to the creativity of the art journalist through the medium of newspapers.

1. The Council will issue advertisement in newspapers along with Press Release andPost Notice on the Website of the Council inviting the entries in prescribed format
(Entry Form, Declaration Forms and Rules) along with the CV of the nominated
journalist/ photo-journalist from the Editors of Registered Newspaper.
2. Names of Selected Candidates will be announced by last week of October, 2015.
3. Selected candidates to be awarded on National Press Day i.e. 16 November, 2015.
Selection Procedure
A jury comprising of members of the Council including a Presiding Officer along withthree non-members from the fields of journalism will finalise the names of the winners.
The jury shall have the discretion to recommend that an award in any particular
category may not be given if they are of the opinion that the entries in that category are not of
the required standard.
The decision of the jury shall be final and binding and no appeal or correspondence shall
be entertained regarding their decision.
The Council shall have the right to reproduce the Award winning articles in its
publication of the National Press Day.
